SIMIQ (Simulator of Industrial Chemistry process) is an App developed by the Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology department of the University of Valladolid, Spain. The aim of this program is to promote the main task of a chemical engineer: designing a production process. Therefore, it also is a tool for understanding this type of design for engineering students.
This App allows the design of a specified chemical process, the hydroalkylation of toluene from a stream reach in hydrogen and with some methane and other stream of toluene with some traces of o-xylene. In order to simplify the problem, the real compounds were substituted by model substances (A, B, C, D, e and F). So, the reaction 1 and 2 were changed to reactions 3 and 4, being E the o-xylene (inert).
reaction 2: 2 benzene-->diphenyl
reaction 4: 2 c-->f
Moreover, the program has an easy interface to add and connect any number of different equipment. These equipment involve all the basic unit inside Chemical Engineering (pump, compressor, reactor, valve and fractionator) and some of their main problems, such as cavitation in a pump.
Finally, it is included a calculation of the profits and environmental impact of the process.
This App has been tested both in mobile phones and Tablet. However, there is no warranty about its running or about the results. If you need more information, please check de help file inside the App.
